right is wrong

check out the project my friend Sara did for her women's studies class. it's a little overly-liberal for my taste, but it is rather intelligent and an interesting read.

timely

it's a little late, but Reuben Ham has a nice article on moviepoopshoot concerning movies that affected him more than The Passion.

rider: Reuben Ham's new piece is also entertaining.

i hate to steal from other blogs, but this is too good not to put up.

whatever your opinion of Bush, you still have to admit it's pretty powerful.

Dear Mother Nature...

It is now April 4th, 2004. Please abort any plans to cause any of the following:

a) temperatures to drop below 50 degrees farenheit
b) snow

Also, I understand that "April showers bring May flowers," however if you could give us a break from the rain for a while, that would be great too.

Thank You

remember the commercials? (pt. 2)

they said they'd call me saturday at 5:30pm. like a girl you give your number to in a bar, they blew me off.

no call, no message, no nothing.

what does it say about a me if even the people who are suppossed to be "saving" my soul don't call when they say they will?

remember the commercials?

on wednesday morning i got on the bus and sat next to a young man in a suit. he was polite, asked me how i was doing and began to ask me questions about the bus we were on - where it went and so forth.

after talking to him for a minute or two he asked me, "so, do you go to school around here?" to which i told him i did and asked the same question of him. his response was a bit different than mine, howver.

"no, i'm a missionary from God."

now i was brought up in multiple religions and have been to many-a-church, but still nothing could've prepared me for a response as blunt as that one. the only thing i could think of at the time was to look at him and say, "oh, well, that's cool."

he then began asking me if i belonged to any religion or any specific denomination. I told him i still consider myself a christian in some respects but that i didn't much beleive in church or denominations anymore as a) i've seen a lot of people get hurt by the church, and b) i've seen too many churches run like businesses rather than houses of worship.

the man got off the bus and walked to the corner with me. i asked him what denomination he belonged to and he told me that he was part of hte Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. he asked if i knew about them and i told him, "well, i remember seeing the commercials during saturday morning cartoons when i was a kid." the man smiled and asked me if there was a time he could call me to meet with me.

now i'm not big on a) giving strangers my phone number and b) joining cults. however, i found myself thinking about his offer.

i decided to meet with him but made it clear that i will not be joining a church home, converting to anything or giving anyone any kind of money. i told him that if he wanted to meet up for coffee and talk about religion i would do it all day because i like talking with lots of different people about lots of different topics.

he made it clear that he wasn't looking for any money, nor was he looking ot convert me. he was just trying ot spread the word of God.

now say what you will about religion, but if someone has something - whether it be religion, a politcial ideology, a music, whatever - that he or she stands by as this guy seems to, i'll respect their beliefs. we might not agree, but it doesn't matter. to me, talking about different likes and dislikes, beliefs and disbeliefs, etc, is fun.

so i giave him my number and he's going to call me on saturday sometime around 5:30pm. already i have two friends - one catholic and one atheist - who want to join me and the missionaries (yes, missionaries, they always come in pairs. there was another man with the man talking to me, but he didn't say much) for coffee.

hopefully they don't mind sitting in the smoking section of whereever we end up.
